Laura Rogora’s send train continues with two F9a repeats
- Tuesday 29th October 2024
Italian competition climber Laura Rogora continues to rack up more impressive repeats with two more F9as in Italy; Flipping the Bird and Prima Classe after sending Goldrake (F9a+) earlier in the month.
Lead specialist, Laura Rogora didn’t have the best Olympic Games in Paris ultimately finishing in 18th place. Writing on her athlete page she reflected on her Olympic results after the European Championship later in September: ‘The first weeks after the Olympics were mentally tough; I experienced a lack of motivation like never before’.
However, her results in the European Championships represented a turning point in Rogora’s year; finishing in top spot in both Lead and Boulder & Lead Combined at Villars gave Rogora a boost and since then she has gone on to send a slew of impressive routes in France and Italy.
As the comp season was finishing for the year, Rogora hit the crags and on-sighted both Aurora Borealis (F8a+) and Pura vida (F8b) and redpointed Fast and Furious (F8c) in Arco, Italy. In late September Rogora really stepped up her game repeating Adam Ondra’s 2010 route Goldrake (F9a+) at Cornalba as well as on-sighted Jedi (F8b) and ticking Gold Jedi (F8c) the same day. Rogora’s repeat of Goldrake was super quick as she explained: ‘On my second try, I already made it with one resting, and the next day I sent it on my first try. The route is totally my style, may be a bit easier than expected, but absolutely amazing! 😍’
In mid-October, Rogora dropped into the Verdon Gorge and came away with an impressive tick list which started with a 4th go redpoint of Le Flute e Chantier (F8c+) which she followed up with a flash of Aggresif You Want (F8c) and La Feu Occlte (F8b+) before finishing the trip with an on-sight of Spanish Caravan (F8c) and a repeat of Aggressive dans le culte (F8c). Writing that trip up online Rogora commented ‘These 50 meters long journeys on tufas were exactly what I needed after a long competition season. I really enjoyed these long routes but now my calfs and knees definitely need some time to rest😅’
After the Verdon, Rogora returned to Italy where she made the second ascent of Flipping the Bird (F9a) in Grottosauro and then repeated Prima Classe (F9a) in La Stazione, Italy. ‘Hard routes, tiny crimps and a motivated crew made these climbing days great.’ she wrote online.
