ABC lobby for leisure sector support
- Tuesday 7th April 2020
The Association of British Climbing Walls, along with other activity associations, have lobbied for further support to the leisure sector as a result of the current coronavirus pandemic.
In a joint letter sent to all MP’s the ABC, the National Karting Association, the International Association of Trampoline Parks and The British Activity Providers Association have highlighted the ‘devastating impact Coronavirus is having on our industry’. In the letter the MP’s were asked to ‘pressure the Chancellor and Government to help alleviate what is quickly becoming an existential crisis for hundreds of SMEs’.
The measures that the Government have already outlined have been welcomed but further support is needed ‘to help the businesses, the staff, supply chains and the communities that they support.’
Collectively this sector is said to be worth £600 million a year to the economy with upwards of 24,000 employees.
Specifically, the letter outlined the support that was needed across a number of areas including grant aid, commercial leases and insurance.
