After a number of rehearsals Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell climbed The Nose on El Cap today in a new record time of two hours, 10 minutes and 15 seconds – nearly ten minutes faster than the previous record time.

As anyone who follow Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell on social media will know, the pair have been firing laps on The Nose for some time in preparation of a speed record attempt. In their sights was the previous best time of 2:19:44 set by Brad Gobright and Jim Reynolds in October of last year.

The 31 pitch, 3,000-foot route weighs-in at 5.13+. The Nose was first climbed back in 1958 by Warren Harding, Wayne Merry and George Whitmore; their original ascent taking a total of 45 days!
