Canadian, Quentin Roberts, solos Torre Egger
- Sunday 6th February 2022
The Canmore based Canadian Alpinist, Quentin Roberts reports that he recently made a solo ascent of Torre Egger.
Roberts reports on Instagram that has he topped out on Torre Egger after his solo ascent the two teams in action on adjacent Cerro Torre – i.e. Korra Pesce and Tomás Aguiló as well as the three-man Italian group comprising Matteo Della Bordella, David Bacci and Matteo De Zaicomo – were also summiting.
“Alone but not alone on the summit of Egger. What a place to revisit. I had a beautiful moment screaming across at Tommy, Korra and the Italians just after they completed their new routes on Cerro Torre.” wrote Roberts. As previously reported (here) Korra Pesce and Tomás Aguiló were caught in an avalanche on their descent and although injured Aguiló was able to continue his descent and be rescued, tragically Pesce perched in the storm.
Roberts’ solo ascent of the Punta Herron on Torre Egger is the second solo of that route after Colin Hailey. The first solo, in winter, of Torre Egger was completed by the late Marc-Andre Leclerc back in 2016.
Gripped report that Quentin Roberts is well-known for his bold solo ascents in Canada having soloed Blessed Rage (WI 6) earlier this winter.
