Coxsey and Bosi currently within top 20 in 2019 IFSC WC Overall Rankings
July 19th; 2019
Following the Chamonix Lead WC last weekend the IFSC have posted the first calculation of the individual rankings for the athletes competing in the 2019 Overall event.
With all six bouldering events completed, Chamonix was the fifth Speed event and the second lead event of the season. Once Chamonix had finished therefore, the IFSC could take the two highest scores in each of the three disciplines – ie speed, bouldering and lead - for each athlete competing in the overall and calculate their current points.
As expected, those athletes strongest in bouldering and lead have the lowest points and hence the highest rankings. Currently Janja Garnbret and Tomoa Naraski lead the fields. Looking at Team GB athletes, Shauna Coxsey is in 10th place overall and Molly Thompson-Smith in 29th in the women’s field whilst Will Bosi is in 16th in the men’s.
Some athletes, such as Adam Ondra, haven’t yet competed in sufficient events and hence don’t feature in the current overall rankings.
This ranking be revised following each of the remaining events of the season and will be used not only to award the Overall winner to the 2019 season but also to invite athletes to Toulouse for the Olympic Invitation Event in late November.
