News of Auer’s solo is coming to light. As reported on PlanetMountain, the 34-year old Austrian alpinist travelled to the remote 7157m peak in the Karakorum range in mid-June. Travelling alone, except for some porters and a cook, Auer set up base camp and started to acclimatise.
PlanetMountain reports that Auer’s summit assault started on July 6th. Taking seven and a half hours, Auer reached a bivy spot that night and then continued the day after via a line on the left of the West Face onto the North West ridge. Following this he reached the summit just before noon on July 7th. In worsening weather Auer then descended reaching his base camp that same evening.
