Globe-trotting James Pearson, ex of this parish, reports that during his trip to South Africa he’s managed the first ascent of Bonanno Pisano, a mega line at Wolfberg, Southern Cederberg.

James reports that he was tipped-off about the line by a local, Richard Halsey. Described as a futuristic line, the route follows a 50m overhanging route up the back of the so-called ‘leaning tower’ at Wolfberg. Talking about the route James says; “it’s got everything from steep boulder problems, to delicate slab moves, and even a horizontal roof crack! This is all finished off with a crux headwall on tiny sloppy crimps, with an 8m run out for good measure!” No stranger to completing exciting lines James adds; “BIG falls are guaranteed, and being up on the top of the route, up on the top of Wolfberg "exposed" just doesn't do it justice.”
James describes Bonanno Pisano has “one of the best new routes I have ever done, and I feel so very lucky to have found it”.
We’re in touch with James and hope to bring you more details asap…
