- Thursday 27th July 2023
Norwegian mountaineer, Kristin Harila has completed the fastest-ever summit of all 14 of the world’s 8000m peaks.
Since April of this year, Kristin Harila has been pursuing her dream set a new record to climb all 14 of the world’s highest peaks. Previously, Nirmal Purja – a.k.a. Nims Dai - established a record-breaking time of 6 months and 6 days, breaking the previous best time of over seven years. Harila’s objective however was to climb all 14 of the 8000m or higher peaks in less than four months.
Harila’s team have confirmed that at approximately 10:45 am today Kristin together with her climbing partner Tenjin (Lama) Sherpa reached the final summit, K2 in Pakistan and with that successfully reached the summits of all 14 8000’ers in a new record time of just 3 months and 1 day (92 days).
Remarkably, Harila only climbed her first mountain in 2015. Prior to completing this latest record, Harila had climbed all 14 8000’ers in 1 year and 5 days; her latest record, therefore, is a quarter of her previous time.
