Lockdown latest
- Thursday 5th November 2020
As of today England enters its second lockdown of the year.
With the Welsh ‘fire break’ lockdown ending on November 9th, Westminster has plunged England into a second national lockdown in England from today. Whilst ministers will review that arrangement on December 2nd the hope is that lockdown restriction will be lifted and England will return to the previous Tier restrictions at that time.
Social distancing measures are still seen as important; space (2m wherever possible), masks for indoor places and hand washing. All but essential shops and stores will be closed along with climbing walls and gyms.
However, whilst Lockdown 2 has many similarities with the previous spring lockdown there are some differences, perhaps most noticeably that people can take unlimited outdoor exercise and may travel short distances to do so. People can also exercise with others from the same household, support bubble or with one other person from another household. This means that outdoor climbing is permitted providing that none of the self-isolation coronavirus requirements apply to you. Except for specific circumstances related to work, education or other allowable reasons, overnight stays, holidays, or trips to outside England will not be allowed.
The BMC have issued a lockdown update going into more specific details including their suggestions as to how best to plan your climbing trips. Click here for their news report.
In addition at 13:30hrs today BMC CEO, Dave Turnbull, will be doing a Facebook Go Live session during which he will be answering questions. Click here to go to the BMC’s FB page to access watch that session.
