Malham Slackers take record

We all know that the climbing at Malham is worldclass but last week it was hit by a team of slackliners looking to set new records of their own.
First some background which suggests that slacklining in high places seems to be all the rage – in certain circles! In March last year Guy Ruyssevelt, Tom Parker and Jacob Hirsch zeroed in on a high-level slackline fixed at the summit of Trfyan in Snowdonia. The stats for that outing weighed-in at a (quoted) 40metres long above a drop of c.75metres. Well-known local photographer, Ray Wood, was on hand to capture the action. Not content with the Tryfan crossing the slackliners have targeted Malham Cove for their latest highline attempts. Because of the horse-shoe configuration and easy access, Malham Cove must be one of the biggest/best venues around. It seems that two different lines have been set on different days in the last week. Sunday January 18th saw a number of slackliners (Daniel Laruelle, Sarah Rixhan, Jacob Hirsch and Jediah Doohan) in action on a short (65m) line. However, on Wednesday January 21st last week Guy Ruyssevelt, Jacob Hirsch and Jed Doohan arrived in force intent on setting new records in UK slacklining. As well as rigging the shorter line again they also rigged a monster line across the Cove which is reported at c.210m long. Against the (then) snowy conditions it must have been near ethereal experience out in the middle of the Cove. Respect!
