The hot bouldering news from Japan is that 13 year old Mishka Ishi has just done the third ascent of Byaku-dou at Horai, Japan!
Breaking the news, cdnclimbingnews posted on IG that the 13 year old had just become the youngest ever to climb Font 8c/V15 as well as only the third female to climb that grade.
Previously, and then aged 14, Ashima Shiraishi repeated Horizon – also in Japan – in 2016. Last year, Kaddi Lehmann - the German ace - became the second women to do Font 8c/V15 when she repeated Kryptos in Switzerland.
Then one of the hardest boulders in the world, the first ascent of Byaku-dou was made back in 2003 by Dai Koyamada. Byaku-dou (meaning ‘The Road to Heaven’ in the Buddist world) is 22 moves long and breaks down into two sections; the first is worth Font 8b/V13 whilst the second is Font 8a+/V12. After working it Fred Rouhling said that he though Byaku-dou was harder than Dreamtime which was also graded Font 8c/V15. The second ascent of Byaku-dou was done by Motochika Nagao in early 2015.
