News Flash: Julia Chanourdie becomes first French women to climb F9b
- Saturday 7th November 2020
Hot news from France is that Julia Chanourdie made the third ascent of Eagle-4 (F9b) at St Leger on Saturday 7th November.
In March this year, just before France went into its first lockdown, Julia Chanourdie repeated Super Crackinette (F9a+) at St Leger. Her ascent of that route, the third, also meant that she became the third women to climb that grade after Margo Hayes and Anak Verhoeven. Click here for our report on that ascent.
It seems that lockdown brings out the best in Julia’s climbing – this time she’s not only made the third ascent of Eagle-4 but she now becomes the first French and third-ever women to climb the grade F9b after Angela Eiter who climbed La Planta de Shiva and Laura Rogora who did Ali Hulk sit start extension earlier this summer.
Eagle-4 was originally climbed by Adam Ondra in 2018 (click here for our report of Adam’s ascent), Adam’s ascent came just days after flashing Super Crackinette (F9a+) also at St Leger.
Julia Chanourdie qualified for the Olympics in ninth place after the Qualification Event at Toulouse in November 2019.
