Rab screen Over The Edge for International Women’s Day
- Monday 8th March 2021
Rab are celebrating March 8th, International Women’s Day, with a screening of Over The Edge.
Sarah Kampf, PR & Communications Manager at Equip Outdoor, explains: “the film Over The Edge celebrates the empowering experience of female climbing and tells the story of the women behind the popular Women’s Trad Festival.”
Over The Edge was commissioned by Rab to celebrate five years of the Women’s Trad Festival and tells the story of the women behind the sell-out festival. The film follows festival organisers Ellie Fuller, Charlie Low, Gilly McArthur and Hetty Key, with conversations about confidence, community and connections made through climbing.
Produced by Coldhouse Collective, Over The Edge was shown on Rab’s social media accounts earlier this morning at 9.30 am (GMT).
After its free premiere, Over The Edge will also be broadcast during the Wonderful Wild Women film night on March 8, 7.00 pm, alongside Zero by Scott Salt and Benjamin Paul, and I am a Fellrunner by Jessie Leong and Julie Carter. Wonderful Wild Women is an online community and group based in the North of England, who are passionate about inspiring and empowering all women to get outside.
Hetty Key, one of the organisers of the Women’s Trad Festival, explains: “When Rab said they wanted to make a film about the organisers of the Women’s Trad Festival, we were taken aback – in a good way! Little did we know how incredible the journey would be. Having the opportunity to climb together (something often sacrificed over festival logistics!), talk about what climbing means to us, and why we organise Women’s Trad Festival was an amazing experience.”
Women’s Trad Festival was launched in 2016 and is a trad climbing festival in the Peak District, supporting women in outdoor leadership, and helping to create a supportive network of female climbers. It is an inclusive community, welcoming and actively seeking to support diversity in all its forms. Women’s Trad Festival connects and inspires climbers of all abilities, ages and genders, ethnicities and backgrounds and the fact that the tickets for the last edition in 2019 were sold out in under a second (!) clearly shows how big the need for such an event is. Rab has been a proud partner of the Festival since its beginnings.
Emma Crome, director of Over The Edge explains her angle: “Sharing different stories and perspectives, giving people a voice through documentary film is the most rewarding part of the creative process. Directing Over the Edge really opened my eyes to the opportunities Women’s Trad Festival presents for bringing people together and breaking down barriers.”
