Shauna Coxsey bags 8b+ boulder with New Base Line
- Thursday 17th July 2014
Shauna Coxsey has become first female from the UK to climb 8B+/V14 with a repeat of New Base Line at Magic Wood in Switzerland. Tomoko Ogawa, who climbed Catharsis at Shiobara in Japan back in 2012 and Ashima Shiraishi, are the only other two females that have attained this level of bouldering with 13-year old Ashima ticking off Golden Shadow in Rocklands, South Africa, just a day before Shauna did New Base Line.
She commented on Twitter, 'Today I climbed my first 8B+/V14. New Base Line! Psyched doesn't come close'. Shauna had climbed three problems of 8B before breaking into the 8B+ grade with her first 8B being Nuthin but Sunshine in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado in the US back in June 2013. Earlier this year she did Zarzaparilla at Albarracin in Spain and very recently bouldered out One Summer in Paradise also at Magic Wood, and then she celebrated with a long 14 and a half hour and 888 mile drive home back to the UK.
