Snowdonia hosts King Arthur

A major new film, Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, is being filmed in Snowdonia during mid-April.

Following discussions between Warner Bros, the film’s producers, Snowdonia National Park, The National Trust, Natural Resources Wales and several private land owners, various areas of Snowdonia will be become ‘out of bounds’ whilst the film is being shot. The closures are planned to commence from Tuesday 14^th and run until Sunday 19^th April. In addition, various road closures have been facilitated by Conwy and Gwynedd Council to enable equipment, film crew and the actors to move about between the different sets.

Not only will every effort be made to minimise disruption but many of the locals are getting in on the act (groan...) either as extras or as safety advisors/crew.

Here’s a list of all the closures whether formal or requested:

Tryfan

No formal closures but the producers are requesting that people avoid the east face and north ridges of Tryfan during daytime on Tuesday 14 April and Wednesday 15 April.

Gwern Gof Isaf (Ogwen Valley)      

·         14 & 15 April: there will be short traffic holds on the A5 between 0800hrs and 1800hrs. 

·         14 to 17 April: the footpath that runs through the Gwern Gof Isaf campsite will be closed.

·         7 to 17 April: Countryside Rights of Way (CRoW) access land will be restricted.  Access to the Caseg Fraith bouldering area and to the group use crag "Little Willy's Crag" will be closed during this period.

Pinnacles, Capel Curig           

·         16 April: the group use and beginners' climbing area at the Pinnacles above Capel Curig will be closed and a footpath closure on the public footpath from the A5, through field, up to the Pinnacles.  Suggested footpath diversion route round by Moel Siabod Café.

·         16 April: there will be short traffic holds on the A5 / A4086 Junction between 0700hrs and 2000hrs. This is purely from a safety perspective as there will be an increased amount of activity in the area on this day.

·         16 April: CRoW access land will be restricted.

Llynnau Mymbyr    

·         17 April: there will be short traffic holds on the A4086, the section of road  by Llynnau Mymbyr between 0800hrs and 1900hrs.

·         17 April: areas of the Forestry Commission CRoW access land opposite Plas y Brenin  and the path through the woods leading to Moel Siabod will be restricted.

·         17 April: the layby on the A4086 next to the lake, will also be closed.

Nant Gwynant

·         18 & 19 April: filming in and around Nant Gwynant valley - access to Clogwyn y Wenallt and the bouldering venues on the far side of the lake (Elephantitus Cave) will be closed.

·         18 & 19 April: there will be short traffic holds on the A498 between 0800hrs and 1900hrs.

·         17 to 22 April: several closures of public paths leading from the A498 around Llyn Gwynant.

Finally, the evening of Friday 17 April will see a large number of trucks moving from Capel Curig down to Llyn Gwynant. A police escort will need to hold the traffic to assist the vehicles reaching their destination.
