Twenty years after the iconic film Hard Grit first was released the climbing community are being wooed with a steady slew of climbing films; Silence and Dawn Wall included.
Silence, the film about Adam Ondra’s ascent of the hardest sport route in the world, was released in late February at the Arco Film festival.
Dawn Wall, the story of the first ascent of what is considered the hardest big wall route in the world by Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson, has just premiered at SXSW Festival.
Both capture incredible climbing action – the hardest of their respective genre. What is interesting is that these two films have approached their respective subjects and have been released in entirely difference manners and to different timelines. Silence has taken less than six month to appear and is freely available on-line. Dawn Wall has taken over three year to make and will now tour the globe as a full length feature film.
