Fresh from his hard winter sends in North Wales, Tom Livingstone has been up north sampling the delights of the Scottish winter and not surprisingly he’s picked up a number of testpieces including The Secret (IX, 9).
We previously reported on Tom’s efforts in Wales when he did an on-sight ascent of The Charlatan (IX, 9) on Clogwyn Du – see here for that report. Since then, Tom has been climbing variously with Pete Harrison and/or Simon Frost and hammering away at the modern classic testpieces in Scotland. Following a mild spell mid last week, temps dropped over the weekend as savage westerly winds racked across Scotland. Notwithstanding, Tom managed to do a clutch of hard routes last week culminating in an on-sight of The Secret (IX, 9), a two-pitch crack route high on the right of Number 3 Gully on The Ben. Whilst it’s been on-sighted before on a number of occasions, Tom’s ascent on Friday was done in what he describes as 'Turbo Ming'. And looking at the pixs Tom posted on FB, it’s hard to disagree with that assessment!
