Following the first three rounds, held in North America and Asia, the competition moved into Europe last weekend with the fourth leg in Saas Fee, Switzerland. The event this weekend in Rabenstien, Italy promises to be a gripping finale to the season’s action.
Each leg comprises both a difficult (lead) event and a speed climbing (top rope) event. Perhaps, not surprisingly, the Russian climbers are dominating the speed events although the South Korea’s Han HeeYong and Han Na Rai Song are captivating crowds with their climbing in the difficult events having won a number of the legs. The Koreo-based Irish climber, Eimir McSwiggan, took an impressive silver medal in the Cheongsong event.
Finally, the biennial World Championship event will be held in Champagy-en-Vanoise, France Feb 4-5th.
