Vertebrate Publishing wins at Banff Mountain Book Festival Competition
- Thursday 30th October 2014
Leading outdoor publisher Vertebrate Publishing is celebrating following its win at the 2014 Banff Mountain Book Competition. One Day As A Tiger, John Porter’s biography of iconic British mountaineer Alex MacIntyre, was awarded top prize in the sought-after Mountaineering History category.
With Vertebrate’s YA thriller The Everest Files nominated for the 2015 CILIP Carnegie Medal, and two of its biographies currently shortlisted for the Boardman Tasker Prize, this has been a successful year for the Sheffield-based publishing house, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in August.
Winning at the Banff Mountain Book Festival, currently in it’s 21st year, is a highly prestigious international honour given it represent the biggest prizes in publishing in the outdoor, adventure and environment genres. The competition sees fierce competition from the world’s leading names in mountain literature as well as lesser-known talent.
Vertebrate’s Publishing Manager John Coefield commented: ‘We’re thrilled to see One Day As A Tiger win at Banff – the third Banff award for Vertebrate in only six years. The significance of these awards to outdoor publishers and authors cannot be overstated – some of the biggest names in mountain literature have won there, and we wish John Porter all the best for 6 November at the announcement of this year’s Grand Prize.’
