Yannick Glatthard makes FFA of Hall of Fame
- Thursday 9th March 2023
Yannick Glatthard has just made the first free ascent of Hall of Fame (M13, D10, WI6+) at Kandersteg, Switzerland.
Said to be one of the most difficult Alpine climbs in the Alps, Hall of Fame was originally discovered and climbed by ice climbing pioneer Ron Koller eight years ago.
Gatthard, a young Swiss mountain guide and professional Alpinist, made the first free ascent of the route earlier this month.
Gatthard took two attempts before he succeeded as he explains, “Good climbing conditions are rare. Very often you will find no ice in the lower parts and no ice pillars higher up. After a couple of very cold nights, I finally found almost perfect climbing conditions. It took 2 attempts for me to reach the top. Losing an ice tool high up during my first try got me quite angry but helped me to be fully prepared for the second attempt. To be able to finally climb that massive 30 m high, 15 m free-hanging ice candle in the upper section of the route means the world to me. Hall of Fame has it all – technically, physically, mentally!”
The multi-pitch mixed climb has over several pitches featuring both varied and difficult climbing including the following: D7, M13, D10, WI5, 6a+, WI6+, M7 and M7.
